We are hardfacing cast steel using traditional 600 type hard facing TIG welding wire, is there something available with higher impact resistance while maintaining 55-60 rockwell?
A hard-facing alternative to the cobalt alloy filler wire is AWS A5.21 ERNiCr-B or ERNiCr-C. Chemistry w% approximately: Ni bal, Cr12, C 0.5 ,Si 3.5, VPN 50-56 depending on dilution, heat input and arc-length. You could add this as a final layer to an existing procedure or completely replace with these nickel base alloys.
Another option would be to use a tungsten carbide type alloy combination.
Welding Tips & Techniques
Hardness and wear can be improved with reduced dilution and a close arc to recover more chrome content and efficient shielding to minimise inclusion content.
